Auckland-based New Zealand golf selector Colin Bell has died in Taupo at the age of 60.
Bell collapsed while playing golf after attending the national under-23 teams championships this week.
He had been a national selector for about 12 months after a long career in selection and management with the Auckland Golf Association.
In 1977 Bell became the first delegate to the association from the Onewhero Club, close to his home. He remained with the association until his death. He was a vice-president from 1997-2000 and president in 2001-2002.
Bell became an Auckland selector in 1982 and continued, with one short break, until 1997. During that time he managed successful Auckland teams at the interprovincial tournament in 1984, 1993 and 1995.
A farmer, he had in recent years become well known for his treatment and care of ailing horses.
