EDINBURGH - The European Tour has indicated it will not fine Michael Campbell for missing the season-ending Volvo Masters in Spain.
The New Zealander has instead accepted appearance money to play in the US$4 million ($5.74 million) Singapore Open instead.
Campbell, Ernie Els, Darren Clarke and Lee Westwood - all European Tour members - will travel to Singapore in November, rather than support the tour's big date at Valderrama, the former Ryder Cup venue on Spain's Costa del Sol.
The tour had no problem with South African Els or Northern Irishman Clarke, but was yet to grant a clearance to Campbell and England's Westwood.
Some of the world's top 10 players - American Phil Mickelson (No 2), Els (4), Australian Adam Scott (6) and Fijian Vijay Singh (10) - will play in Singapore.
Campbell has sought a release from the Valderrama date.
European Tour's chief executive George O'Grady said: "We haven't lost anybody yet but they are all applying for releases. We haven't decided whether Lee or Michael will be given releases but if they did go without one, we would not fine them.
"We are not into fining players. We try to explain to players what it takes to grow the European Tour - but they have to decide what is more important to them," said O'Grady, adding he was disappointed the two events clashed.
Campbell will play in the Mercedes-Benz Championship in Cologne, Germany, starting tomorrow..
