Matthew Millar had his lead cut to a single shot as he started his final nine in the NZPGA at Remuera.
He is being chased hard by fellow Australian Kristopher Mueck who took three shots out of the course halfway through his final round while Josh Geary was the best of the Kiwis.
He was in third place and looking for his first major win on home soil however he was losing ground despite a fine birdie on the ninth.
Millar faltered with his only bogey of the tournament on the same hole when his second shot clipped some trees and he scrambled brilliantly to salvage a bogey.
Millar and Mueck were the only players in the top six who were under par in their final rounds as windy conditions made club selections difficult n the tight layout.
