Southland golfer Vaughan McCall has fired a three over par 75 in round two of the Welsh Amateur Stroke Play Championship today to be tied 11th at the halfway stage at the Prestatyn Golf Club.
The 20-year-old from the Gore Golf Club, who earlier this year became the first golfer in 24 years to claim both the New Zealand Stroke Play and New Zealand Amateur titles, is three over par for the tournament.
He endured an up and down round two with three birdies, three bogeys and a triple bogey seven at the par four 13th, leaving him seven shots back from leader Luke Jackson.
McCall is making his first trip to Europe as an amateur and is looking to build on his recent form to vie for selection in the New Zealand team to play the Eisenhower Worlds Team Championship in Turkey later in the year.
