KEY POINTS:
New Zealand's Danny Lee finished runner-up in the prestigious Dogwood Invitational in the United States yesterday.
It is believed to be the best finish by a New Zealander in the 66-year history of the Atlanta tournament.
Lee closed with a two under 69 for a 72-hole total of 15-under 269, four shots behind American Webb Simpson.
The New Zealand amateur champion held the 36 hole lead on 11-under but could not hold off the charge from Simpson who fired two rounds of 63 over the weekend to finish four shots clear.
Lee, who has won back-to-back New Zealand under-23 titles, was a quarter-finalist at last year's US Junior and the first Kiwi since 1999 to qualify for the US Amateur.
He will now prepare for the US Public Links Championships where he will join New Zealand junior representative Sam Shin, who also qualified for the matchplay event at Cantigny Golf Club, Illinois on July 9-14.
Meanwhile, New Zealand's Lynnette Brooky was on the verge of her best result on the European Tour this year heading into the final round of the Portugal Open overnight.
Brooky, a four-time winner on tour, completed the second and penultimate round at Algarve yesterday in a share of sixth place on three-under 141.
She shot rounds of 71 and 70 to trail a group of four players who share the lead on 137.
