Golf: Lee in contention with Tiger on the prowl

Danny Lee has placed himself in contention for another strong finish on the PGA Tour while Tiger Woods has put together his best round of the year to be ominously back in the mix at the Quicken Loans National.

Lee's second consecutive four-under par round of 67 vaulted him 13 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for fifth, with four birdies on front-nine putting him in line for another excellent finish after his breakthrough win at the Greenbrier Classic and third place at the John Deere Classic.

Tied with Lee at eight-under for the tournament is Woods, who matched his low round of the year with a sizzling five-under-par 66.

Woods, who shot 68 in Thursday's first round, is happy with the spot he's in.

"I feel like I can still compete and win," Woods said. "It's not that long ago I was Player of the Year. I just need to keep playing and keep plugging along."

Woods is not the only big name high on the leaderboard, with Japan's Ryo Ishikawa leading at 11-under, with Rickie Fowler just a shot behind after a second-round 65.

American Kevin Chappell is alongside Fowler at 10-under, while Swede David Lingmerth is at nine-under. The round of the day went to the in-form Jimmy Walker who fired an eight-under 63 to be alongside Lee and Woods in a tie for fifth.

The other Kiwis competing both missed the cut, with Steven Alker finishing at two-over and Tim Wilkinson at one-over.
