KEY POINTS:
New Zealand amateur golfer Danny Lee will get a taste of the PGA Tour this week after being invited to contest the Wyndham Championship in the United States.
The world No 1-ranked amateur has received a sponsor's invitation to play the US$5.1 million ($7.4 million) tournament at the Sedgefield Country Club at Greensboro in North Carolina, starting on Friday (NZT).
It comes on the back of some outstanding form for the Rotorua 18-year-old, who this month won the Western Amateur strokeplay and matchplay honours and then easily qualified for the US Amateur, which starts next Tuesday in North Carolina.
"I am excited about the chance," Lee said.
"It's a real test for me to see how my game will be against the best players in the world and I'm really looking forward to the experience.
"I'm playing some of my best golf, driving the ball well and my iron play is strong. It will be a great opportunity for me and I'm really thankful for getting this chance."
He will become just the second New Zealand amateur to play in a PGA Tour event.
Gareth Paddison made the cut at the 2001 Canadian Open after being invited to that tournament following his win that year in the Canadian amateur championship.
