Danny Lee has reminded himself that Sundays are the most important days in professional golf tournaments.
The 20-year-old New Zealander signed off with his best fourth round score of the still young year when a five-under-par 67 elevated him up the leaderboard in the Dubai Desert Classic in the United Arab Emirates today (NZT).
It was the equal second best score of the closing round and good enough to propel Lee from his overnight 71st placing to 42nd equal on even par 288, 11 strokes behind the new champion, Spain's Alvaro Quiros, who managed a hole in one while carding a 68 to win his fifth European Tour title.
Lee will bank 10,125 ($NZ18,050), his best pay cheque of the year through three events.
That is close to double what compatriot Mark Brown earned in Dubai after he fell well off the pace over the weekend.
Brown was just outside the top 10 in a stellar cast field after opening with rounds of 69 and 70 but he could not kick on over the weekend as later efforts of 79 and 72 saw him tumble to a share of 48th place on 290.
