Kiwi golfers Danny Lee and Steven Alker have made middling starts to the Farmers Insurance Open on the PGA Tour in San Diego.
Lee, who entered the week inside the top 40 on the FedEx Cup standings, carded a one-under 71 during his first round today (at the Torrey Pines North Course that left him in a share of 52nd. Lee is seven strokes back from leader Nicholas Thompson (-8).
Alker was at even par through 13 holes in a share of 67th when play was suspended due to darkness. Like a raft of other players, Alker will need to finish his first round tomorrow before he can play his second.
In a nod to Alker's consistency, the Hamilton professional made 13 pars from as many holes today as he played the Torrey Pines South Course.
The event was notable for the withdrawal of Tiger Woods after 11 holes due to injury. Woods was two-over at the time of his retirement.
