Golf: Ko fails to fire in Canada

Lydia Ko never got going in Canada.

The Kiwi 17-year-old returned to this week's Canadian Open in Ontario as a two-time defending champion but she never looked like making a run at a hat-trick of titles.

She eventually finished in a share of 55th at one-under after a final round 76 today, which could have been a lot worse after she dropped seven shots during her first six holes before making a couple of birdies on the back nine.

Ko was a whopping 22 shots back from winner So Yeon Ryu (-23) and while Ko was steady most of the week, the leaders in the field were able to pick up shots regularly.

Ko earned US $6017 (NZD$7206) for her week's work and she was projected to hold firm in third place on the Race to the CME Globe standings, which is the season-long points race on the LPGA Tour.

Meanwhile, Danny Lee has kept his season alive on the PGA Tour, despite a poor fourth round of 73 at The Barclays today, which saw him slide to a share of 38th.

Lee began the final round of the PGA Tour's opening playoff event in a share of 16th but endured a poor back nine as he made five bogeys and a birdie, which took away from a promising front nine, which saw him pick up two shots.

The Kiwi entered the tournament in 116th place on the FedEx Cup Standings but his top-40 finish saw him jump to 96th and only the top 100 players move on to the Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston next week.

Fellow Kiwi Tim Wilkinson's season is over after he was cut after the third round at The Barclays, an event that was won by American Hunter Mahan (-14).
