New Zealand's trio of PGA Tour players have made a slow start to the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in California.
Left-hander Tim Wilkinson was the best of the Kiwis as he carded a two-under 70 at the Pebble Beach course today, which left him in a share of 59th, while Danny Lee signed for a one-under 71 following his round at the Monterey Peninsula Country Club as he sat in a tie for 82nd.
Hamilton's Steven Alker fired an even-par 72 at the Spyglass Hill Golf Course and he was in a share of 99th. American Justin Hicks and J.B. Holmes lead the event at eight-under.
The New Zealand contingent will need to pick up the pace during the next two rounds before the 54-hole cut given the hot scoring on day one.
Meanwhile, Auckland's Ryan Fox will try and close out his second victory on the PGA Tour of Australasia in the space of five months at the Victorian PGA Championship today.
Fox (-11) has a two-stroke lead over Australian Matthew Millar at the Huntingdale Golf Club. North Shore professional Michael Hendry is the next best Kiwi in the field in a share of 10th at four-under. Fox won the WA Open Championship last October, which secured his playing rights for the next two years on the Australasian circuit.
