Auckland golfer Brad Heaven fired a second round 65 to jump up the leaderboard in the US PGA tour school second stage in Florida today.
He has jumped to a share of eighth place on eight-under par 136 after two rounds of his qualifying event at Lake Jovita Country Club.
Heaven, who played on the Canadian Tour this year, started with a birdie on his first hole and an eagle on the second. He dropped one shot but added a string of birdies on 6, 9, 13, 17 and 18.
Grant Waite is even better placed, following his first round of 68 with a 67 to be on 135 and tied for sixth place at the same venue. His round began on the 10th hole and contained five birdies and no bogeys.
North Harbour's Mike Hendry improved with a second round 70 to go with his earlier 78, but is well back on four-over and tied 70th.
Hawke's Bay's Doug Holloway is also in a strong position, shooting a second 71 to be on even par and a share of 13th at the Hombre Golf Club, also in Florida.
Tim Wilkinson, who shot an opening 66, faltered with a second round 75 but is still in a share of ninth place on 141, rueing his four dropped shots in the last four holes.
North Harbour's Josh Carmichael scored a 78 to go with his first round of 74 and is well back on 151, tied for 58th.
Phil Tataurangi is also struggling at the TPC Craig Ranch Golf Club, with a three over par 74 today for a 36-hole total of 149 which sees him tied for 57th.
Tauranga's Brad Iles is in a share of 40th place on one-under 143 at the Royal Dunes Golf Club in Arizona with his six birdies mixed with three bogeys and a double bogey.
