Golf: Fox leads strokeplay

Twenty-year-old Auckland golfer Ryan Fox will take a three-shot lead into the final round of the North Harbour strokeplay today after battling strong winds for a 36-hole total of 143, one over at the North Shore Golf Club.

Fox shot 72 in the morning to trail Travis O'Connell (The Grange) by one shot. His afternoon 71 featured a four on the par-five seventh where his first drive hit an overhead powerline. A local rule allowed him a second tee-shot and, despite spraying it on to a neighbouring fairway, he recovered well for a birdie.

O'Connell had a 75 in the afternoon. He shares second place with Ben Jujnovich (Redwood Park), who had two 73s.
