Auckland representative Ben Davies survived a nervous finish to win the Auckland Anniversary 54-hole tournament at Akarana by one shot yesterday.
The 19-year-old Maungakiekie player took a three-shot lead into the final round after rounds of 69 and 68, three under for 36 holes. He seemed to be cruising until he bogeyed three of the last four holes.
His chip from the fringe on the par-four 18th didn't make the green but he put his fourth shot close and his final round of 72 was good enough to thwart Akarana clubmates Mark Pirihi and Hayden McCallum by a shot.
