Kiwi golfer Daniel Hillier has been knocked out of the US Amateur Championships at Pebble Beach in California.
The 20-year-old lost his round of 32 match-up against American Davis Riley, 5 and 4.
Riley took an early two-hole lead after back-to-back birdies before Hillier closed the gap at with a birdie at the fifth. But the American took control of the match from there, winning four more holes to complete the victory with four holes to play.
The world No 27 and New Zealand's top-ranked amateur was looking to emulate compatriot Danny Lee's title run in 2008.
