Young New Zealand golfer Aimee Cho survived a dramatic play-off involving 10 players to make the top 64 and contest the matchplay phase of the United States amateur women's championship this morning.
The 16-year-old Cho, who shot 76 and 77, finished tied with nine others on the cut-off mark of 153. And the play-off went three holes before the required six were found.
Under pressure, Cho had three pars - better than two time United States Curtis Cup golfer, Brenda Kuehn who bogeyed the first extra hole to be eliminated.
After her hard work, Cho faced the prospect of upsetting another US rep, Beth Bauer, who qualified in third place for the matchplay with sub-par rounds of 70 70.
Bauer was three shots behind the top qualifier, Californian Natalie Gulbis, who finished on 137 including a career-best 6-under 66.
Meanwhile, Greg Turner - who received a special invitation - is New Zealand's only representative in the US PGA Championship at Medinah starting on Friday.
Golf: Cho remains strong
