US Open champion and world No 14 Michael Campbell has turned his back on the big bucks on offer in South Africa and Asia to play in the Centenary Australian PGA Championship in December.
His decision is a major boost for Australian golf and coup for the struggling Australasian Tour.
"I remember that the PGA of Australia were one of the first to extend a sponsors' invitation to me when I was struggling back in 1997-98 and I am glad to be able to repay their support after the most exciting year of my career to date," Campbell said.
"I've spent plenty of time at Coolum, it's only an hour from where I live in Sydney and it's a great family week."
The Australian PGA from December 1-4 clashes with the exclusive 12-man Sun City tournament in South Africa, which offers astronomical prizemoney, and also the Hong Kong Open, to which Campbell no doubt has been offered a tempting appearance fee.
