KEY POINTS:
LONDON - New Zealand golfer Michael Campbell's horror season continued when he slumped to his worst ever score in the European Tour's BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth today.
Campbell carded an eight-over par 80 to end the day in a tie for 140, trailing first round leader Paul McGinley of Ireland by 15 strokes.
Campbell's score was punctuated by a 13th hole triple bogey, a double bogey on the 10th, five other bogeys and just two birdies.
It is the former US Open champion's highest score in 39 rounds on the English course and two strokes higher than his previous worst, a 78 recorded in the first round of last year's event.
His 80 is also the fifth occasion this year Campbell has signed off for scores in the 80s.
Campbell is contesting the opening two rounds in the company of reigning New Zealand Open champion, Richard Finch, who last week won the Irish Open. Englishman Finch carded a 75.
Also on 75 was New Zealander Mark Brown who looked headed for a sub-par start until a triple bogey at the par four 15th ended a run of three successive birdies from the 11th.
