KEY POINTS:
Michael Campbell has endorsed a New Zealand golf course he slammed three years ago by signing up as its touring professional.
Auckland's Gulf Harbour Country Club today announced the partnership, which will involve the 2005 US Open champion in marketing and promotional activities for the club as he plays international events.
Campbell, who was previously the touring professional for the Kauri Cliffs club further north, said in 2004 that Gulf Harbour was "the worst designed golf course" he had ever played on.
He later backtracked, endorsing having the New Zealand Open staged there and said the course had improved.
The American who designed the Gulf Harbour course, Robert Trent Jones, suggested at the time Campbell's comments were what could be expected from someone who was being paid by another top-tier club.
This week, Campbell is set to play in the Masters, where he'll be the only New Zealand representative .
