KEY POINTS:
Michael Campbell has made a solid start to the European Golf Open at the K Club in Ireland.
The New Zealand number one has carded a two under par 68 to have a share of 18th place, and is four shots behind the leader, Dutchman Maarten Lafeber, who finished on six under.
He has a one shot lead over a group of five players.
Fellow New Zealander Steve Alker finished his round with four over 74.
Campbell's round included four birdies and a double bogey. He said the soggy conditions were difficult, but he gave himself plenty of opportunities.
Campbell won at the K Club in 2002.
