Masterton golfer Ben Campbell has made the cut at the 109th Western Amateur with a two-over-par 73 in the United States today.
Campbell, who is due to have an operation shortly on an abnormal bone growth in his foot, is in a share of 28th place at one-over for the tournament, 11 shots back from the leader Chris Williams, at North Shore Country Club in Glenview, Illinois.
He endured a poor back nine that included four bogeys and a birdie as he dropped 14 places down the leaderboard.
Auckland's Ryan Fox, after eighth and 11th at the recent Southern Amateur and Porter Cup respectively, missed the cut by one shot after registering a 72 today.
New Zealand amateur champion Mathew Perry, who opened with a 76, managed a 72 to also miss the cut.
