KEY POINTS:
Michael Campbell was still in contention for the NZ Open title eight shots into his round today.
Campbell was four under, one shot behind the leaders.
Earlier, Sweden's Daniel Chopra made a remarkable run to the top of the leaderboard at Gulf Harbour before quickly falling away again.
Chopra, ranked 54th on the US PGA Tour this year, birdied five of his first seven holes to move to five-under par.
He later fell back and was one under with one hole to play.
Also on the move was Australian Nathan Green, another to enjoy a strong season on the US Tour this year. He took the lead and finished on five under.
New Zealand lefthander Tim Wilkinson is also in form early, finished one-under par in 15th.
There were a number of players in red figures from the early starters despite the strong south-westerly winds.
