PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Florida - Michael Campbell missed the cut at the Players Championship second round in Florida today.
Campbell missed out by one stroke after firing six bogeys and five birdies.
American Jim Furyk moved one shot clear with a one-under-par 71 while Tiger Woods rallied with a 69.
Co-leader overnight with compatriot Davis Love III, Furyk collected three birdies and two bogeys on a blustery afternoon at the TPC at Sawgrass to finish on eight-under 136.
Twice winner Love, who matched Furyk with an opening 65, experienced a nightmare round.
Champion on the Stadium Course in 1992 and 2003, he collapsed to an ugly 83, which included a quadruple-bogey nine at the last, to miss the projected cut by four strokes.
Canada's Stephen Ames fired a best-of-the-day 66 to share second place at seven under with 2004 champion Adam Scott of Australia (67).
World number two Vijay Singh returned a 70 to lie joint fourth at six under with South Korea's K.J. Choi, who shot a second successive 69.
Twice US Masters champion Jose Maria Olazabal was also at six under, with four holes to play.
Britain's Greg Owen (68) was among a group of six at five under while former winner Woods finished at three under, despite growing concern over his father's failing health.
The world number one, who had considered pulling out of the tournament earlier in the week, birdied four of his first seven holes to move into contention.
Woods was in danger of bogeying his final hole, the ninth, after finding water off the tee but chipped in from 30 feet from off the back of the green for a par five.
"It should have been a seven but I ended up with a five," the 30-year-old American told reporters.
"But today I got back into the flow of the rhythm of the round," added Woods who flew to California earlier in the week to spend time with his father Earl who has been battling prostate cancer since 1998.
"The wind is blowing really hard out there and you've got enough to worry about on the golf course." Ames, who lost to Woods by a record margin of 9&8 in the opening round of last month's WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship at La Costa, was delighted with his display.
"I'm hitting the ball very well right now and this has always been a good golf course to my eye," the Trinidad-born player said.
"I was very comfortable with my set-up this morning and it was just a matter of going out, being patient and waiting for it to happen. I played well and hit some quality golf shots coming down to the end."
Owen, who threw away a golden opportunity to win last week's Bay Hill Invitational, kept alive his hopes of qualifying for next month's US Masters.
The Englishman double-bogeyed the par-four first but recovered with six birdies over the next 15 holes to finish at five-under 139.
"I started really rough but I played pretty well after that," said Owen, who led by one with two holes to play at Bay Hill before three-putting from three feet for a double-bogey on 17.
"I'm proud of myself to play well this week because it was tough last week."
Owen needs a top-20 finish on Sunday to have a chance of playing in the April 6-9 Masters at Augusta National.
The halfway cut was projected to fall at level-par 144.
