Whangarei amateur golfer Caroline Bon is the best placed New Zealander after the first day of the European Ladies Tour pre-qualifying school at La Manga Club in Cartagena, Murcia, Spain.
Bon, 23, the reigning New Zealand strokeplay champion is joint 13th after a three-over 76 overnight.
Wendy Hawkes is 28th equal a stroke behind and fellow professional Sarah Nicholson opened with an 81 which put her 51st equal.
The field of 165 has been split into two fields and compete over the North and South courses on alternate days respectively.
After four rounds, the top 70 players and ties (comprising the top 35 and ties from each field) progress to final qualifying at the same venue from Dec 15-19.
