Auckland, Waikato, Wellington and Bay of Plenty have secured the four semifinal places at the women's interprovincial golf tournament after a dramatic day at the St Clair Golf Club in Dunedin.
The defending champions Auckland, who were unbeaten, advance as the top seed from division one after beating Waikato 4-1 in winds that gusted up to 50kmh. Waikato still advanced as the second seed from division one as Canterbury's title hopes were ended when hosts Otago upset them 3-2 in the southern derby.
Wellington, who have lost one match this week to Bay of Plenty, claimed top place in division two on individual wins ahead of the Bay after beating Southland 3-2 in round seven.
Bay of Plenty were the final team to secure a semifinal berth when they knocked out North Harbour, who were hoping to make the final for the third year in a row.
The final standings see Auckland square off with Bay of Plenty in the first semifinal and Wellington will battle with 2008 champions Waikato in the second semifinal.
Auckland manager Kaye Carroll was excited about the chance of defending their title on the final day.
"We are really pleased to go through unbeaten," she said.
"They have worked so hard and consolidated on last year.
"We have got the results in the end even if we have been slow off the mark at times," she said.
