Kiwi golfer Steven Alker has produced a solid opening round at the Chiquita Classic in North Carolina, the second finals event on the Web.com Tour.
Alker, who has qualified for next season's PGA Tour, has been solid in recent weeks on the second-tier tour without producing a game-changing low round.
That was the case again today as the Hamilton professional carded a two-under 70 at the River Run Country Club to sit in a share of 31st, seven strokes back from leader Adam Hadwin (-9). Alker's round included four birdies and two bogeys.
The 42-year-old has said he will likely play three of the four finals events on tour. The finals events are important to help Alker boost his priority ranking for the 2014-2015 PGA Tour.
