Kiwi golfer Steven Alker delivered one of his best rounds of the season to start the St Jude Classic on the PGA Tour in Memphis today to sit one stroke back from the leaders.
The Hamilton professional signed for a five-under 65 and holds a share of fourth place. He is in hot pursuit of Brooks Koepka, Greg Owen and Ryan Palmer who are tied for first.
Alker's round included nine birdies and four bogeys and the 43-year-old could do with a strong showing this week given he has fallen to 183rd on the FedEx Cup standings during his first year on tour since 2003.
"I haven't got on any decent runs this year and I think this is my lowest round of the year so it was nice," Alker told the PGA Tour website.
"I have got a few things to touch up on but the way I'm rolling it, if I give myself some chances then you have a chance to win."
