Kiwi golfer Steven Alker has finished in a share of fifth place after a solid final round at the Portland Open on the second-tier Web.com Tour in the US.
Alker carded a one-under 70 today as he moved to 10-under for the week, four strokes back from eventual winner Carlos Ortiz (-14) who capped a phenomenal year on tour with his third tournament title.
The 42-year-old Alker was projected to jump to 10th on the Web.com Tour's money list and he has earned a PGA Tour card for next season as one of the players inside the top 25 on the money list.
The Web.com Tour now moves in to their four-week finals series where 25 more PGA Tour cards will be on offer, while those who already have their card for next season can boost their priority ranking for the PGA Tour and earn more money.
Alker said he would likely play three of the four finals tournaments as he looks to keep fresh for the 2014-2015 PGA Tour season, which will get underway in October.
