New Zealand golfer Steven Alker shot a one-under-par 71 to coast to a three-shot victory at the Canadian Tour's $US125,000 ($291,647) PEI Challenge at O'Leary yesterday.
It was the first Canadian Tour victory for Alker, who moved into second place on the tour's order of merit and earned two starts on the United States PGA Tour, beginning with this week's Canadian Championship in Vancouver.
Alker, who pocketed $US22,500 for the win, finished with a 72-hole total of 10 under 278, with American pair Ken Duke and Brian Unk tied for second at seven-under.
"I've been playing well all year so I certainly felt I had a chance to break through," Alker, aged 29, said.
"I knew I had a chance to qualify for Vancouver if I won but I had to block that out because I still had a job to do.
"It was a simple equation. But I'm very proud of myself for finishing the job."
