New Zealand golfer Phil Tataurangi is one solid round away from a United States PGA Tour card after another useful day at the office today.
Tataurangi shot a four-under-par 68 in the fifth round of the PGA Tour's qualifying school at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, to leave him tied for 15th on a 17-under total of 343.
It was his third successive round of 68 or better and barring a disastrous final round he looked destined to be among the top-35 who are granted full exempt status on the PGA Tour for next year.
The pressure was still on, however, with the seven players tied for 30th sitting just two shots back on 345.
The only other New Zealander in the field, Steven Alker, was tied for 50th on a 12-under total of 348 after a fifth round 69.
He would need to shoot in the mid-60s at least tomorrow to sneak in to the top-35.
Alker was tied with six others on 348, one of them Orlando 17-year-old Ty Tryon who is bidding to become the youngest player to secure a PGA Tour card.
Pat Perez was still leading the qualifying school after shooting a fifth round 65 to be 27-under on 333.
