Spain's Ignacio Garrido birdied the first extra hole in a sudden-death playoff with South African Trevor Immelman to win Europe's flagship golf event, the Volvo PGA Championship, at Wentworth, Surrey today.
Immelman three-putted the 18th, the first playoff hole, to hand the US$673,000 ($1,168,800) first prize to the Spaniard. Both had finished on 18-under-par 270, three shots better than Swede Mathias Gronberg and four ahead of South Africa's Ernie Els.
New Zealand's Michael Campbell finished in a tie for 48th at 285 following a final round one-over-par 73. Greg Turner shot 74 to finish in a tie for 58th.
