Michael Hendry has qualified for the Open Championship after finishing in a three-way tie for second at the Mizuno Open in Japan.
The Kiwi golfer did enough to finish in the top four qualifying spots at the Japan Tour event, which doubles as qualification for the British major in July, despite a rocky final round.
Coming into the fourth day with the lead, Hendry only managed a two-over 74 to finish one-shot behind tournament winner Shota Akiyoshi.
The 38-year-old said he was disappointed not to take out the win but was looking forward to improving on last year's Open where he failed to make the cut.
"I didn't know what to expect when I went last year, it was my first time to the open," he said.
