The Wellington Phoenix have fallen to a fourth loss in five A-League games, brushed aside 2-0 by Melbourne City at AAMI Park.
Seeking their first win at the venue in eight years, the Phoenix barely fired a shot - literally. The visitors recorded only one attempt at goal in 90 minutes and even that effort was easily blocked.
After Harry Politidis opened the scoring in the seventh minute, the Phoenix struggled to break into the opposition half, much less mount any concerted pressure.
There was slight improvement in the second spell but still nothing to worry the hosts, who doubled their lead through Nathaniel Atkinson with 10 minutes to play.
Defeat saw the Phoenix remain in ninth on the A-League ladder, with Auckland FC leading the way and now 10 points ahead of their derby rivals.
