Soccer: Phoenix conquer Jets

The Wellington Phoenix is one match away from a place in the A-League football final.

The Phoenix beat the Newcastle Jets 3-1 in extra time in the elimination semi-final, in front of nearly 33,000 fans at Westpac Stadium.

The teams were deadlocked at 1-all at the end of 90 minutes, after Tim Brown scored for the Nix and Matt Thompson for the Jets. But a goal from Paul Ifill just before half-time in extra time, and then a second from Eugene Dadi has put the Phoenix into the preliminary final.

They will play the loser of the Sydney - Melbourne match.
