Ifill's been left out of the Wellington Phoenix squad for tomorrow night's home A-League meeting with the Newcastle Jets due to a groin injury.
Herbert says he's not prepared to rush his striker back.
He says they'll be careful with him and he's more likely to feature in back-to-back games after Christmas.
Ward's succumbed to concussion while defender Tony Lochhead is at least another week away as he battles a groin injury.
Herbert says they lose a few but Daniel and Dani Sanchez will most likely feature.
Meanwhile Herbert says the club is hoping for an early Christmas present with skipper Andrew Durante likely to re-sign with the club.
