Wellington Phoenix striker Vaughan Coveny has announced his retirement, ending one of the most illustrious careers in New Zealand football.
The 37-year-old will step down at the end of the current A-League season after a career spanning 17 years.
Coveney, who retired from international soccer nearly two years ago, scored a New Zealand record 28 goals in his 71 games as a winger or striker for the All Whites over a period of 15 years.
He represented a swag of Australasian teams in his lengthy career, most notably Miramar Rangers, Melbourne Knights, Wollongong Wolves, South Melbourne, Newcastle Jets and the Phoenix.
