KEY POINTS:
Experienced All Whites and New Zealand Knights defender Che Bunce is trialling with Scottish Premier League soccer club Dundee United.
The lanky centre back was to spend the next few days at the club and could sign before the transfer window closes on Wednesday next week, according to manager Craig Levein.
"He's in for a week and if he does well we may, initially, fix him up until the end of the season," Levein told The Dundee Telegraph newspaper.
"I've talked to several people about him and he could steady us at the back.
"He's an experienced international and he has the profile we are looking for.
"Che seems to have the physical attributes we are looking for so we'll check on his fitness and see how he does before thinking of anything else."
Levein needs experienced cover at the back position until the end of this season as defenders David McCracken and Alan Archibald won't have their contracts extended.
Bunce, 31, played for Sheffield United from 1992 to 1994 and has also played in Iceland, Ireland and Denmark.
Most recently he has represented Waikato FC in the New Zealand Football Championship and the Knights, who he joined last April on a short-term contract until the end of the season.
If he is signed by the ninth-placed Dundee United, Bunce will become the second All White in the Scottish Premier League.
The other is prolific striker Chris Killen, who is out for the rest of the season recovering from an Achilles tendon injury suffered while playing for Hibernian this month.
