Wellington coach Ricki Herbert says the Phoenix need to score more goals if they are to become genuine A-League title contenders this season.
And he may have found just the man to solve the problem if new signing Jeremy Brockie's pre-season form is any guide.
The New Zealand striker, signed from Newcastle Jets in the off-season, has been unstoppable in netting 18 goals for the Phoenix in warm-up games.
And while many were against non-A-League opposition, the signs are strong to suggest Brockie can build further on the form he showed with the Jets last season when he netted nine goals.
Herbert is hoping that bodes well for a Phoenix side which has established itself as a consistent finals contender but returned 34 goals in 2011/12, the third lowest in the league.
