The Football Kingz have gone back in time with the appointment of their coach for the new Australian Soccer League, it has been reported.
It is understood former All Whites coach John Adshead has been appointed to the job.
Adshead coached to New Zealand to their only World Cup appearance, in Spain in 1982, and has been coaching in the Middle East for the past few years.
The 61-year-old is understood to have been given the nod ahead of two other applicants on the short list, including former All White Ricki Herbert.
Football Kingz CEO Guy Hedderwick is refusing to confirm the appointment, claiming the club is yet to agree terms with the successful applicant.
He says an official announcement is expected to be made by chairman Anthony Lee in the next 48 hours.
