The Wellington Phoenix have been given assurances they are wanted in the A-League after a story in the Sydney Morning Herald has questioned the side's future in the competition.
There were moves afoot to replace the Wellington team with a third Sydney-based team.
Phoenix CEO David Dome spoke to head of the A-League Damien De Bohun and Kyle Patterson from the FFA this morning.
"Both of them had the same message," Dome said. "It's a bit of beat up. It's the mayor in that particular part of Sydney getting ahead of himself."
"There's nothing in it. They want ten teams in the competition next year and the Wellington Phoenix is one of those teams."
