Perth Glory’s trip across the Tasman to play the Wellington Phoenix women’s side has proven costly for striker Gabby Hollar.

The American import travelled to the capital for Saturday’s A-League match with an apple unknowingly in her luggage and was handed an instant fine $400 for falling foul of New Zealand’s biosecurity laws.

A teary-eyed Hollar posted a video about the mishap on TikTok, having failed to declare the stowaway piece of fruit.

Following a TikTok trend, she held up five fingers and said: “Put a finger down if you travelled to New Zealand for a soccer game and didn’t know you had an apple in your bag and got fined $400. Live, laugh, love.”

Hollar wrote in the caption: “I’m sorry NZ, I didn’t know it was in there. Had to laugh so I didn’t keep crying.”

Hollar will hope the visit is more successful on the field, when her ninth-placed Perth side takes on the seventh-placed Phoenix at Porirua Park.
