Wellington Phoenix defender Ben Sigmund is set to return for tomorrow's crucial home outing against the Central Coast Mariners in the capital.
Sigmund has missed the past two games due to a nagging quad injury and his absence has been felt in middle of the Phoenix's backline where he usually operates alongside skipper Andrew Durante.
Wellington are mixed in a tight tussle to secure a top-two spot in the playoffs and need to win their remaining two regular-season games to give themselves a chance. The Melbourne Victory look odds-on to claim the Premiers Plate.
"He's a gritty-type player, very tough, uncompromising and not much gets past him and I think he's good for set-plays in the box, attacking-wise," Phoenix coach Ernie Merrick said of Sigmund. "So I'm pretty keen to get Ben back in the team."
Sigmund's return will force a reshuffle of the backline and Merrick needs to decide on his two fullbacks out of either Michael Boxall, Manny Muscat or Louis Fenton.
