An inability to find the last pass hurt the Phoenix against the Western Sydney Wanderers as they went down 2-0 last Sunday and shooting has been a focus at training this week.
Aside from a few players with sore legs, there are no major injuries within the Phoenix's playing XI and Merrick said he was likely to use the same side for tomorrow's game that suited up against the Wanderers.
"I'll obviously look at the starting XI and see how the opposition set up. It may or may not change. If there's any change, it'll be very little."
Young midfielder Matthew Ridenton is expected to miss up to five weeks due to a knee injury he suffered while playing for the club's reserve side last week. The 18-year-old will be a key player for New Zealand at this year's under-20 World Cup.
Former Phoenix midfielder Daniel was spotted at training today as he caught up with players past and present.
The 35-year-old Brazilian, who left the Phoenix in 2012, most recently played for a couple of seasons in Thailand before retiring and now works as an agent.
"It's great to see him, obviously, 100-odd games for the club and a bit of a legend around here," captain Andrew Durante said.
Daniel's attacking play saw him become a fan favourite in the capital. He made 106 appearances and scored eight goals during his five seasons with the Phoenix.
Meanwhile, the Phoenix have signed former Western Sydney Wanderers winger Kwabena Appiah for the rest of this season and the 2015-2016 campaign.
The Auckland-born 22-year-old left the Wanderers last month by mutual consent and impressed Merrick during a three-day trial in Wellington last week.
"We are always on the lookout for talented young players, especially those who can represent New Zealand," Merrick said.
"During the time he spent with us he showed good technical ability, speed and a willingness to learn.
"He also underwent fitness testing and came up trumps in all departments."
Appiah will arrive in Wellington on Monday.
