Football: Good mix in Phoenix's Hong Kong Sevens squad

Four contracted professionals feature in the 10-strong Wellington Phoenix squad that will contest the Hong Kong Football Club Soccer Sevens later this month.

First-team players Louis Fenton, Kwabena Appiah, Tom Doyle and Lewis Italiano will provide valuable experience with the other six squad members coming from the club's academy and reserve sides.

First team assistant Chris Greenacre will coach the side and said it would be a valuable exercise for those involved.

"It will be a fantastic experience, especially for the young guys," Greenacre said.

"With the tournament played over two days (May 30 and 31) it will be non-stop football.

"There are some top clubs involved and we have English Premier League club Aston Villa in our group.

"Villa will be sending some of their best rising stars and our emerging players will learn plenty playing against them."

Also in Wellington Phoenix's group is the Hong Kong Football Association under-18 team and the Hong Kong Football Club.
