Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua are keen to sign Wellington Phoenix striker Nathan Burns during the current transfer window but have been turned down by the New Zealand club.
Burns is the leading goalscorer in the A-League having netted 10 goals in his first season with the Wellington club after signing a two-year deal from Korean club Incheon United, via a loan spell with fellow A-League side Newcastle United.
The 26-year-old has been in action for the Socceroos during the current Asian Cup campaign, starting in their 1-0 group match loss to Korea.
The deal on offer to Burns is believed to be an annual net salary close to AU$2.5m, the Daily Telegraph reports.
The Phoenix sit in second in the A-League standings having won nine of their opening 14 matches.
