ATHENS, Greece (AP) Playing with an interim coach, Veria earned a surprise 1-1 draw at Panathinaikos in the Greek league Saturday.
Mehdi Abeid opened the scoring for Panathinaikos in the 44th but El Fardou ben Nabouhane equalized for Veria 10 minutes later and then hit the post in the 62nd.
Veria coach Goran Stevanovic resigned on Tuesday, less than three months after taking over, accusing the club owners of acquiring players without consulting with him. Youth team coach Stefanos Gaitanos has taken up head coaching duties while a search for a replacement is on.
Also Saturday, Ergotelis drew at Xanthi 0-0 and newcomer Kalloni beat Giannena 1-0.
Veria is joint third with Ergotelis, a point behind Kalloni and defending champion Olympiakos, which travels to Levadiakos Sunday. Panathinaikos is in eighth place.
