VALENCIA, Spain (AP) Debt-ridden Valencia has remodeled plans for its half-built, vacant stadium in a bid to get its eventual new home finished.
The club presented a video of the new-look stadium, which has been left as a shell since February 2009 when the club could no longer afford to make construction payments.
The "optimized" project should save the club 100 million euros ($134 million), according to architect Mark Fenwick, with the stadium's full cost coming in at 200 million euros ($267 million). Valencia has spent nearly 100 million euros ($134 million) already.
The remodeling will reduce seating capacity from 73,000 to 61,000. Overhead cover will only shield 75 percent of the seats.
The club has been beset by economic troubles with the equally-indebted regional government taking control.
