Lionel Messi is a step closer to being on trial for tax evasion after a Spanish high court rejected his latest appeal.
The four-time world football player of the year and his father are both accused of defrauding authorities of more than $NZ6 million.
The income relates to Messi's image rights including contracts with a number of sponsors.
