Three-time world Player of the Year Zinedine Zidane is the chief target for a Fifa All Stars team to play a charity fundraiser at Eden Park next May.
Fifa president Sepp Blatter has agreed in principle to a game between a Fifa side and an Oceania XI toraise funds for victims of the tsunami which struck the Solomon Islands last month, killing dozens.
It's hoped All White Ryan Nelsen can be lured back to lead an Oceania side that could also contain Australian and Everton midfielder Tim Cahill, who first played international football for the Samoa under-20 side.
Oceania general secretary Tai Nicholas confirmed that Zidane was top of their list for a match they hoped would raise as much as $2 million.
Oceania ambassador Christian Karembeu, who was born in New Caledonia but played for France and Real Madrid, has said he would play a half for each side.
Karembeu, who won the World Cup in 1998 as part of the Zidane-inspired French team, is seen as a crucial ally in recruiting top players such as Holland and Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf, a close friend.
Seedorf is the only player to win the Champions League with three clubs and will feature in this month's final against Liverpool.
The charity match has been pencilled in for the end of next May, after the Champions League final and before Euro 2008 starts in Austria and Switzerland on June 7.
Zidane has played a handful of charity games since retiring, including one in Thailand in February for HIV/Aids sufferers and another in March in France dubbed a 'match against poverty'.
A game between Australia and a Fifa All Stars XI which included Wynton Rufer attracted 80,000 people to Sydney's Olympic Stadium in 2000.
