Chris Wood's Leicester City have taken a crucial step towards promotion back into the English Premier League with a 1-0 win in their English Championship playoff semifinal against Watford this morning (NZT).
David Nugent scored for home side in the 82nd minute to take a crucial advantage into the second leg at Vicarage Road on Sunday night (NZT).
Watford narrowly missed out on automatic promotion to the Premiership after last minute drama on the final day of the regular season and struggled to get into the match against Leicester.
"Massive to take a lead into the second leg on Sunday,'' Nugent said. "It was a close game all round. We started the game really well, should have scored a couple of goals but we got tired towards the end. Watford came back into the game with a couple of chances but I took my chance at the end and we go into the second leg with a 1-0 lead.''
Wood was substituted in the 62nd minute after coming into the game ill.
